Extension Plans to catoctin furnace
HFTTA is currently planning on extension plans to Catoctin Furnace. Please go to the "Extension Plans South to Catoctin Furnace" page on this site for more information.
Carnival Grounds Section AND LIBRARY LOOP are COMPLETE!
After many weekends of hard work and lots of help from dedicated volunteers, the Library Loop and Carnival Grounds section is complete! The HFTTA is thrilled with how the project turned out and wants to thank everyone involved for helping to make it happen.
The "Library Loop" portion of the trail is especially exciting, as it highlights the Thurmont Regional Library as a community hub of family activities and now, even more scenic walks.

WORK HAS BEGUN ON SOUTHERN EXTENSION!
March 26, 2020:
A team of HFTTA members and volunteers recently broke ground on the much-anticipated southern extension. It's important to lay a strong foundation in any project, ESPECIALLY a trail. With the help of some volunteers and a few Town of Thurmont staff, we were able to do just that.
We were met with the challenge of some water drainage issues, but we and our volunteers acted fast with some drain work. With that out of the way, the group was able to prep the foundation for the next phase: laying and spreading stone crusher run. Stay tuned for more updates.

the northern extension To Eyler park
The HFTTA is advancing a northern extension of the trail to Eyler Park. This extension will connect one of the largest parks in Thurmont with the center of town, providing a safe walking and biking connection for residents wishing to visit Eyler Park. Many children in town travel to Eyler Park for soccer, football and lacrosse practice and this would give them a much safer alternative to reach the park.
This extension would add about .8 miles to the current trail making the trail a total of 1.5 miles end-to-end. Part of this connection will require some on-street sections to cross the Maryland Midland Railroad tracks.
